MISSION STATEMENT

Werkstattwoche Lüben stands for freedom of speech and art, as enshrined in Article 5 of the German Basic Law (Grundgesetz für die Bundesrepublik Deutschland). We support the international exchange of artists, which not only opens up new perspectives, but also promotes freedom of art and creative expression as well as critical discourse. This takes place in a positive atmosphere characterized by openness, tolerance and mutual curiosity.

We actively campaign against all forms of hatred and violence and promote diversity and a peaceful, unified world. We firmly distance ourselves from nationalism, extremist political and religious views, antisemitism, homophobia and any form of misanthropy and xenophobia.

Intercultural cooperation is of central importance to us, as it strengthens openness and diversity among people and makes an important contribution to democracy and tolerance. We believe in the power of art as a means of expression that connects people and encourages dialogue. In a time of increasing polarization and social tensions, our goal is to create a space in which free exchange and creative development are possible. With this in mind, we promote creative projects that celebrate diversity and tolerance.

We invite all participants, hosts and visitors to actively participate in this process and to live the values of the Lüben workshop week. Together we are shaping a future in which art and freedom of expression can continue to thrive in a respectful coexistence.

If these values contradict your own beliefs and a peaceful exchange cannot be guaranteed, we ask that you refrain from participating or visiting.

We are committed to the legal provisions applicable in Germany on freedom of expression and freedom of art, which are anchored in the Basic Law. At the same time, we respect the limits of these freedoms, especially when they conflict with the rights of others.

Werkstattwoche Lüben is committed to the equal treatment of all people, regardless of gender, origin, religion, age, disability or sexual identity. We respect different worldviews and promote the inclusion of all participants.

We do not tolerate antisemitic statements or clichés, even in the context of works of art. The parameters are the definition of antisemitism by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) and the guidelines of the Jerusalem Declaration of Antisemitism (JDA).

Werkstattwoche Lüben will be carried out as sustainably and resource-efficiently as possible.

And with respect for the participating artists, hosts and organizers. During Werkstattwoche Lüben we maintain a respectful and tolerant relationship with one another. The Werkstattwoche can only be carried out successfully and sustainably with the support of the village of Lüben. We therefore also ask all artists to treat the hosts in Lüben with respect and tolerance. Despite all the idyllic scenery, Lüben also faces social, ecological and economic challenges. In many cases, the basis of life is profit-oriented animal husbandry and the agricultural use of the landscape.
