16. Werkstattwoche // DIGNITY

A VILLAGE
FOR THE ART

Fulminant conclusion of the Werkstattwoche 2023

For ten days 18 artists from 7 nations lived, worked and discussed in Lüben near Wittingen. On the first weekend in July , the International Werkstattwoche came to a close during beautiful summer weather. The exhibition venues in the Lüben Tenne and in the village, the concert of “Voice & More” and the culinary offers of Tenne and village ladies’ cake buffet attracted numerous visitors to the “most important cultural event of the region”, as Wittingen’s mayor Andreas Ritter called it in his greeting. Lüben mayor Joachim Niemann, coordinator Regina Oldenburg and chairwoman of the cultural association Elke Bruns-Tober also welcomed the guests and thanked the people of Lüben, the sponsors and the participating artists who had worked under the motto “Dignity”. Andrea Grieß introduced the audience to the artists’ works and took many interested visitors on guided tours through the exhibitions.

The elementary school and adult workshops as well as the pupils’s day were enthusiastically received; 36 young people from the Isenhagener Land and the Altmark were given the opportunity to learn about artistic techniques and creative approaches on the pupil’s day. And these approaches were very diverse: whether classical realistic or expressive painting, analogue or digital drawing and photography, video, land art, performance or installation – many artistic expressions were represented. Already in advance, the participants had approached the motto “Dignity”, which had gained even more significance since the call for entries 2019, and had applied themselves formulating statements about it. This thematic focus was evident in the artworks shown finally in Lüben.
